When we first came to this part of the Overberg, something felt different. The openness of the landscape, the quiet rhythm of the lagoon, the light, the wind — everything seemed more grounded, more real.
It wasn’t a place we were looking for. But it quickly became a place we couldn’t forget.
Creating a place to arrive
MBIZI lagoon house was never meant to be just another holiday home.
From the beginning, the idea was to create a place that feels calm, natural, and connected to its surroundings — a place where architecture doesn’t dominate, but blends into the landscape.
We wanted to design a home that allows space: space to breathe, to slow down, and to reconnect.
Shaped with care and intention
The transformation of the house took time, patience, and many decisions along the way.
We focused on natural materials, soft colours, and an open layout that brings the outside in. Every detail — from furniture to textures — was chosen with the aim of creating a sense of ease and warmth.
It was never about perfection. It was about creating the right atmosphere.

MBIZI lagoon house is a personal project — created and shaped by us, Angela and Christian.
We share a passion for places that feel authentic, calm, and thoughtfully designed. MBIZI is the result of that shared vision: a home that reflects our appreciation for nature, simple aesthetics, and meaningful experiences.
We didn’t want to create something generic. We wanted to create a place with character — a place we would choose ourselves, again and again.
Why “MBIZI”
“Mbizi” means “zebra” in the Zulu language — a symbol that reflects the spirit of this place: wild, free, and deeply connected to nature.
The name also connects to the wild horses that roam around the lagoon — one of the most unique and moving aspects of this landscape.
It felt like the right name for a place that is shaped as much by nature as it is by people.
A place to return to
Today, MBIZI lagoon house is a place we love to return to ourselves.
It’s where we slow down, spend time with family and friends, and reconnect with what matters. And it’s a place we are happy to share with others who are looking for the same feeling.
